New for Highland Spring HIHO 2010 is the stand-up paddle category. We are offering two classes: the Starboard Cruiser and Open. Enter the Starboard Cruiser and we’ll provide you a new 12’6” board. All you need is a paddle (plus a leash & lifejacket). Open class racers must ship their boards to Tortola for the event (contact us here [direct e-mail to me] about this). We’ll award trophies based on the # of racers and their ages.
SUP racing will take place each day from Monday, June 28 through Saturday, July 4. Racing will be competitive and, perhaps, arduous. We have two types of racing on offer; island circumnavigations, and inter-island downwind races. We plan the races to be between 1-2 hrs each, though the longest inter-island races might be as long a 3-hrs, but all downwind. Racing is usually underway by mid-morning with a finish in time for lunch. We rarely plan afternoon races instead offering this time to chill-out and spend time doing the many other things you can enjoy in the BVI. Each day is rounded off with dinner & dancing on the beach.
The SUPer’s will be accommodated aboard our yachts, just like the windsurfers and other non-competing participants.
Competitors who choose the Starboard Cruiser class pay $250 for a board. (Remember, we don’t provide paddles unless you ask us for one). Competitors in the Open class pay a $100 entry fee. To be clear, all racers must be registered in the event. Event entry is $2,099 and includes per person double cabin occupancy on a captained Moorings catamaran, all meals, parties, activities taxes and event T-shirt. Contact us if you would like to attend on your own yacht.
