Every day feels like the Weekend in our Newest Print!

At HIHO we put a lot effort into our prints. We design most of them right here in Tortola. Our surroundings are our inspiration- the ocean, all the boats & yachts, sea life, plus the mountains and blue sky, and our Caribbean island culture.  And therefore, with some fanfare, we give you our Weekend print, which is the star of our Summer collection.  Designed by our talented friend Laura, the Weekend print features a lovely collection of island life.  You will find the weekend print on our linen dresses & tops and wonderful 100% pima cotton knit dresses. Plus on our men’s linen shirts.

Marblehead: A Sailors Town

We love sailing, and we love a good sailors town.  Marblehead, Massachusetts fits the bill for us.  Offering a perfect harbour, which is chock-full of boats in the Summer. The old town spills up over the low hill to the West of the harbour.  One of the oldest colonial neighbourhoods in American, it’s dotted with fun bars, restaurants, shopping and boat yards.
The town stretches out to the point to the East which comprises a neighborhood of newer, larger houses and several of the countries oldest yacht clubs.  The water is deep and cold, and the coastline is rocky.  Small bays are etched into the shoreline.  Marblehead offers stunning sunrises, which you can see looking East from old town, and awesome sunsets.  Take in a Summer Sunset from the verandah of Corinthian or Boston Yacht Clubs (you have to be a member or a guest of a member) and watch the sun descend over the old town dropping behind the church spires and sailboat masts.

What’s New

In a way we can’t believe it took us so long to add sarongs to our line.  Everyday items in our Caribbean life that, for some reason, we overlooked until now.  We wear sarongs casually and often to the beach where, once we take them off, they are perfect as blankets on the sand.  Our new sarongs which are available in 100% cotton feature our bespoke prints in great Caribbean colors.  Sarongs are wonderful because you wear them as wraps, skirts, dresses and scarves, and use them as tablecloths or beach blankets.  Truth be told, we sold more sarongs at the Winter trade shows as big scarves than as wraps or skirts.

HIHO's True Colors

Here’s a peek at a color chart we are working on for our men’s linen shirts.  Color plays an important part in the HIHO line.  We spend hours selecting colors and testing variations trying to get them exactly right before assigning them to the various clothes in the line.

We send color swatches to our suppliers and they return us “lab dips” for us to approve. These approved colors are included in orders we send to our factories.  Naturally, we focus on colors that surround us in the Caribbean.

We are inspired by the turquoise and green of the sea, the golden sand beaches, riotous flower colors and, of course, the stunning palate available at every sunset.  Once we get the colors right we then agonize over a name: Is it coral rose or dark peach; dark blue or deep sea; and so forth.
